Fall Migrants at the Rea Farm - Saturday, October 13th, 2012

Group 1: Lots of Yellow-rumped Warblers, American Robins, and accipiters flying over head. Good looks at Nashville and Northern Parula warblers. At least 3 Bald Eagles overhead. The Plover Pond held 2 Black-crowned Night-Herons, a Common Gallinule and 2 fly-in Wood Ducks. Other birds of interest were a couple of Eastern Bluebirds, several Purple Finches, 1 Clay-colored and 1 White-crowned Sparrow, 4 Rusty Blackbirds, and 3 Eastern Phoebes.  Leaders: Karl Lukens, Catherine Busch, and Carrie Bell.

Group 2: On this morning's Beanery walk we saw many sparrows and many more saw us first! We did get looks at Swamp, Savannah, Song, Field, White-throated and White-Crowned. A couple fly-over Eastern Meadowlarks were bright yellow in the morning sun. A flock of 14 American Pipits fed in the bare field between cabbage rows and several Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers moved through the area. Leaders: Kathy & Roger Horn.
