Photo Walks with Mike Hannisian - Saturday, October 12th, 2013

After almost two months of clear skies, this week's Saturday Photo Walk was greeted with strong winds, high humidity, and intermittent rain. We began by taking shelter under the hawk watch platform where we were able to shoot the Dickcissel that was hanging around. During a break in the rain, we took advantage of the overcast to shoot some flowers, such as the Seaside Goldenrod growing along the dunes. Bunker Pond then yielded a Snowy Egret hunting amidst the Duckweed, while the Lighthouse East Pond yielded a hunting Great Egret which demonstrated that the eyes of these birds are located below their bills. Finally, the woods along the Red Trail were alive with Gray Catbirds. All in all, not bad for a day when it looked as if we might not even be able to photograph at all.
