Higbee Beach Bird Walk - Friday, May 16th, 2014

The threat of rain didn't put off our walk participants and we even ended up splitting into two groups! Our group headed straight for the beach and enjoyed a nice show of Bottlenose Dolphins and a light passage of terns and shorebirds. Two Bald Eagles brightened our morning and seemed to be keeping an eye on hunting Ospreys. Walking north to the canal we headed back via Higbee Dike and found a nice selection of shorebirds on the impoundments, including some close up Least Sandpipers and Semipalmated Plovers.  The fields were rather quiet but Indigo Buntings showed well on the trails and Orchard Orioles serenaded our route. The rain almost held off and only just snuck in for the last ten minutes or so. Group 1 - Leaders:  Mike Crewe, Catherine Busch, and Chris Marks.
