Birding the Meadows with Pete Dunne - Monday, May 19th, 2014

Nice weather for birding. Waders were easy to see and included Great Egret, Snowy Egret, two Little Blue Herons, Green Heron, and Glossy Ibis. Shorebirds were numerous with Spotted Sandpiper, both yellowlegs, Willet, Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers, Semipalmated Plovers, many Short-billed Dowitchers, and one Stilt Sandpiper. Other small birds seen were Yellow Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Prairie Warbler, Indigo Bunting, and three Orchard Orioles. Most interesting was a rail that flew across, landed, and disappeared. It possibly/probably was a King Rail! Leaders: Pete Dunne, Karl Lukens, Chuck Slugg, Steve Weis, Warren Cairo, Catherine Busch, Janet Crawford, Nancy Watson, and Marc & Lynne Breslow.
