Cox Hall Creek Bird Walk - Sunday, March 31st, 2013

This first-of-spring walk at the Cox Hall Creek Wildlife Management Area held a mix of resident and spring migrant species. The many Chipping Sparrows are at various stages of brightening rusty caps, Pine Warblers were heard singing here and there throughout the walk and a bright male was seen at a bird-busy spot on the northwest side along with a Brown Creeper, Brown Thrasher, Yellow-rumped Warbler and Ruby-crowned Kinglet. A couple of Double-crested Cormorants and Pied-billed Grebes were on the main pond and we suspect that the fish-carrying Osprey didn't know that fishing season hasn't yet begun. Eastern Phoebes and Field Sparrows worked the grasses and we were seldom out of earshot of the many Eastern Towhees. Leaders: Kathy & Roger Horn, Janet Crawford, Cindy & Shaun Bamford, Mary Jane & Chuck Slugg, Catherine Busch, Chris Marks, and Lynn & Mark Breslow.
