Belleplain Wildlife - Sunday, June 30th, 2013

This week we headed to Tarkiln Pond and Head of River to survey plants, dragonflies, and butterflies. Botanical highlights included Lake Loosestrife, Ragged Fringed Orchid, Deptford Pink, and Wild Indigo in bloom. Some of us sampled Dewberry and learned the difference between it and it's close berry relatives. Butterflies of note included Wood Nymph, many Pearl Crescent, and a bog specialty--Mulberry Wing. Dragon and damselflies included Eastern Pondhawk, Ebony Jewelwing, and Sparkling Jewelwing. Leaders: Mike Crewe, Bert Hixon, Chris Marks, Megan Crewe, and Catherine Busch.
