Photo Walks with Mike Hannisian - Saturday, August 18th, 2012

The weather gods again favored us by ending the fairly heavy rain about 30 minutes before our starting time! The lesson of today's walk was that sometimes it is best to just find a nice place and let the birds come to you. We found a convenient patch of Poke Berry with a nice perch nearby and were rewarded with a nice variety of birds, including American Goldfinch, Cedar Waxwing, Great Crested Flycatcher, Northern Mockingbird, and Yellow-breasted Chat. The goldfinch were eating thistle seeds, the flycatcher was using the Poke Berry as a perch from which it sallied out after passing insects, while the others dined on the berries.
