A chilly and blustery Higbee Beach was not overly inviting this morning, but this is Cape May and the birds were there to be found! A Yellow-bellied Sapsucker eventually settled for all to get good views and three Eastern Phoebes were early migrants in the fields, but the beach and bay produced the best activity today. A Piping Plover was a nice surprise on the beach, two Horned Grebes included a nice close bird that was almost in full breeding plumage and we witnessed Great Egrets and a Great Blue Heron struggling in right over our heads. Bonaparte's Gulls still hung out at the jetty and displaying Red-breasted Mergansers were a treat to watch. Leaders: Mike Crewe, Chris Marks, Catherine Busch, and Mary Watkins.
