The weatherman did us a favor, again, by forecasting rain. As a result, the weather was quite nice and, unlike recent weeks, more birds were around. The Mute Swans and Canada Geese were on nests. The American Robins and Red-winged Blackbirds were in full song. The Mallards were acting territorial causing them to be more concerned about themselves than those of us pointing lenses at them. The beach was largely devoid of gulls, but a pair of immaculate Ring-billed Gulls was present. However, the highlight of the walk was a pair of nicely cooperative American Oystercatchers who seemed to have forgotten that they have two legs. While it is common to see many species stand on one leg, this pair was hopping around that way! It was a nice show and portends for even better in the coming weeks.
