The highlight of this evening's walk was a bird not seen, but heard. As we went down the East path, after looking at the Pectoral, Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers feeding on the edges, a Virginia Rail called, close beside us along the path. Though we never saw a feather of it, or even movement in the grasses, it called repeatedly as it traveled past. A Northern Waterthrush, a Common Yellowthroat and a couple Indigo Bunting showed themselves later on the west path but couldn't surpass our enjoyment of that close, vocal Virginia Rail! Leaders: Kathy Horn, Roger Horn, Michael McCabe, & Sharon Meeker.
