Cape May Point - Wednesday, October 20, 2010

A bit of a strange bird list this week as we ran out of time and didn't complete the usual circuit - so we missed all the ducks on Lighthouse Pond; partly due to rain, but also partly due to the fact that there was just so many migrants passing over first thing.

A little bunch of sparrows at the parking lot included some smart White-crowned Sparrows and a brief Clay-colored Sparrow, Surf and Black Scoters scooted by offshore and all the while, great droves of Yellow-rumped Warblers moved through in waves. At the start of the Blue Trail, we struggled to pick out a couple of Pine Siskins, lurking in an oak tree as the rain started; then the birds flew out and suddenly there was a flock of about 40 Pine Siskins feeding on Giant Sunflower seed.
