Evening at the Meadows - Friday, August 20 2010

[Yellow-headed Blackbird by Karl Lukens, last night at the meadows.]

[Sora last night at the meadows by Karl Lukens. Originally detected by Tom Johnson.]

Karl Lukens et. al report" "CMBO Sunset Walk at the "Meadows" - TNC. Great evening at the Meadows. Along with the usual array of waders, ducks and shorebirds, we had a couple of Blue-winged Teal, 4 Green-winged Teal, and the now famous 3 Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks. The latter appear to have moved over from Lighthouse Pond to the area by the west path bridge at the Meadows. Also at the bridge were 2 Soras that where enjoyed by all for as long as we wanted to stay. On the beach with many terns were Oystercatchers, Black Skimmers, the apparently one remaining Piping Plover fledgling that can probably leave any time it wants. Also on the beach were many Semi-palmated -Plovers and -Sandpipers, a Ruddy Turnstone and ,the hit of the night, a 1st year male and a female Yellow-headed Blackbird. Scope birds but Nice!! - Karl (Chuck, Mary Jane, Kathy, Roger, Mike H.)"
