Cape May Point - Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Location: Cape Island--Cape May Pt.

Observation date: 6/30/10
Number of species: 59

Rain overnight and a decidedly cool start to the morning probably kept some people away, but our group enjoyed plenty of good bird sightings this morning. Top prize went to the totally unexpected Red-breasted Nuthatch in pines at the back of the park, but other highlights included a fly-by Black-billed Cuckoo and great views of singing Indigo Bunting, Blue Grosbeak, Yellow-breasted Chat and a Cedar Waxwing on its nest. Also notable was the never-ending procession of Swamp Darner dragonflies, all coming in off the bay and heading north-east - though many didn't make it past the reception party of Purple Martins and Laughing Gulls!
