Spring Birding at Garrett Family Preserve - Saturday, May 5, 2018

The Garrett Family Preserve, the 180-acre Nature Conservancy property off Wilson Street in West Cape May, is a new addition to our weekly spring walks. A lot of the newly arrived local breeders are in - we had five displaying Chats, multiple calling White-eyed Vireos, Common Yellow-throats, Indigo Buntings and a singing Prairie Warbler. A Red-headed Woodpecker perched long enough for good views and eight Osprey were working the adjoining Cape Island Creek marsh. Orchard Orioles were really cooperative, too, allowing us to compare plumages of adult males, 2nd-year males and females.
