Birding the Meadows with Pete Dunne - Monday, July 7th, 2014

Good views from the parking lot of singing Blue Grosbeak and Indigo Bunting. Offshore, we had dozens of Black Scoter with at least three Surf Scoters. Waders included Great Blue Heron, Great and Snowy Egret, Green Heron, Glossy Ibis and a fly-by Black-Crowned Night-Heron. Shorebirds are on the move with several Spotted Sandpipers, Least Sandpipers, both yellowlegs, and over 50 Short-billed Dowitchers. On the beach we had a pair of American Oystercatchers with a young chick, and a couple of Lesser Black-backed Gulls. Best bird of the day was a Sandwich Tern among the Common and Forster's on a sandy edge. Leaders: Pete Dunne, Karl Lukens, Chuck Slugg, Catherine Busch, Janet Crawford, Steve Weis, and Mike Hannisian.
