Above Par Birding at Cox Hall Creek - Sunday, October 13, 2019

Warbler sightings were low today at CHC WMA but woodpeckers were plentiful, in large part due to the many migrating Northern Flickers. CHC has a lot of large old trees which provide excellent habitat for woodpeckers and we had four species including the usual Downy and Red-bellied plus the recently returned Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. Eastern Towhees have started to call again after a long period of silence and Brown Thrashers can be heard almost everywhere.

Fall Migrants at The Rea Farm - Saturday, October 12, 2019

Short-distance migrants are on the move now and we saw many Brown Thrashers, Blue Jays and Northern Flickers today. Sparrows have started their fall influx into the area, and we had several Savannah, Swamp, Chipping and Song Sparrows, along with a couple of Eastern Towhees.

Higbee Beach Birding - Friday, October 11, 2019

Northern Flickers and Sharp-shinned Hawks filled the sky at Higbee today, along with a few overhead surprises. Two Common Loons flew over, and one yellow-tinged bird turned out to be a Meadowlark instead of the expected flicker. A Dickcissel gave its rough, raspy call overhead as well. On the ground we had some lingering Indigo Buntings, a few Palm Warblers and a White-crowned Sparrow.
