Birding the Meadows with Pete Dunne - Monday, May 15th, 2017
A clear, cool, and very windy morning. We had lots of swallows and many Chimney Swifts. Rain brought the water levels up and thus not much mud flats for shorebirds. We did get Semipalmated and Least Sandpipers, Short-billed Dowitchers, Spotted Sandpiper, Semipalmated Plover, and Killdeer. On the beach we had American Oystercatchers, Sanderling, and a fly-over Red Knot. Leaders: Pete Dunne, Chuck Slugg, Karl Lukens, Steve Weis, Pat Perkins, Janet Crawford, & Karen Thompson.

Birding the Meadows with Pete Dunne - Monday, May 8th 2017
A cold and windy day for early May but some good birds were found. On the beach we had the usual American Oystercatchers, one apparently on nest, and one Piping Plover. Shore birds on the east pond were numerous and included Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers, one Greater and several Lesser Yellowlegs, Willets, a Pectoral Sandpiper seen by a few, one Stilt Sandpiper, a Wilson's Snipe, and four Solitary Sandpipers. When we got back to the parking lot, the finale was a Mississippi Kite almost overhead. Leaders: Pete Dunne, Chuck Slugg, Karl Lukens, Steve Weis, Pat Perkins, Bill Boyle, and Karen Thompson.

Birds of Nummy Island - Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017
The Nummy Island walk got off to a windy start. The tide was in so we had good looks at close-in shorebirds the highlight being a lone breeding plumaged Red Knot. The quest for a Clapper Rail continued, with very brief looks at one with many calling but remaining hidden. Birding the Meadows with Pete Dunne - Monday, May 1st, 2017
Not many ducks on the ponds, as most have left for their breeding grounds further north. American Oystercatchers were paired up on the beach and we were also fortunate enough to see a Piping Plover on the beach which have been absent the last 2 years. Hopefully it will find a partner and nest on the beach. We also had two Lesser Black-backed Gulls and three Least Terns which were FOY for many observers. Above Par Birding at CHC WMA - Sunday, April 30th, 2017
Baltimore Orioles can really shine in the morning light and when four males appear at the top of a sunlit tree, as they did on this morning's walk, it's quite a sight. The selection of warblers was good also, with singing Blackpolls, Northern Parulas, Common Yellowthroats, Pine and Black-throated Blues. Leaders: Kathy Horn, Roger Horn, Shaun Bamford, & Cindy Bamford.

Bird Walk for All People - Saturday, April 29th, 2017
Unseasonably hot and humid, but a good walk none-the-less. We started off with extended views of a pair of newly arrived Indigo Buntings feeding on beach grass seed heads. The swallows also put on a show hunting for insects at close range.

Spring Migrants at The Rea Farm - Saturday, April 29th, 2017
Prothonotary Warblers were definitely the stars of the day! Not only could we hear at least three singing males from various locations throughout much of the walk, but they also put on a visual show. The highlight occurred when a pair landed on the path a short distance in front of us and the male proceeded to display. We were paying a lot more attention to his strutting than was the female Prothonotary - she was really playing it cool, pretending not even to see him. Leaders: Kathy Horn, Roger Horn, Karl Lukens, & Michael McCabe.

Higbee Beach Birding - Friday, April 28th, 2017
A exciting morning when the local bird alert told us to be on the lookout for migrating Red-headed Woodpeckers. We had two brief flyovers, and one that stopped on a large oak tree to look for insects for several minutes to the delight of all, especially for those who had never seen one before. We also had good views of a singing Prairie Warbler. Leaders: Brett Ewald, Chris Marks, & Catherine Busch.

Birds of Nummy Island - Wednesday, April 26th, 2017
Tonight’s CMBO’s Nummy Island walk got off to a great start with a pair of Indigo Buntings that had apparently just arrived, actively feeding right next to our meeting point affording everyone a nice comparison of the male and female buntings. There were folks from upstate NY and Vermont joining us. For some it was a first visit to South Jersey, and they desperately wanted to see a Clapper Rail. Right from the start of the walk we could hear Clapper Rails but couldn’t lay our eyes on even one. Gail took us to her favorite spot to search for them, and sure enough, we had great looks at two individuals along with close looks at Eastern Willets and Whimbrel. Another highlight was finding three Red Knots (two in breeding plumage), another first for some of the participants. All in all, another wonderful evening's birding on Nummy Island. Leaders; Gail Dwyer, Warren Cairo, Shaun Bamford and Bill Smythe

Rain was threatening and windy, but still found some good birds. Still two Blue-winged and two Green-winged Teal on the ponds with Mallard and Gadwall. Shore birds starting to show up including two Willets, three Greater and three Lesser Yellowlegs, and four Least Sandpipers on the ponds or fly overs. On the beach at least eight American Oystercatchers pairing off for nesting. Still a good number of Northern Gannets offshore. A good number of swallows were low over the ponds and included Northern Rough-winged, Tree, and Barn Swallows. Although not on the list, one person heard a Virginia Rail. Leaders: Pete Dunne, Chuck Slugg, Karl Lukens, Bill Boyle, Karen Thompson, & Pat Perkins.
