For a worthwhile finale, participants were treated to displaying American Woodcocks whose efforts were quietly curtailed be a flyover Great Horned Owl!

Birding Cape May Point - Saturday, February 17th, 2018

Red-breasted Nuthatches have been scarce this winter - it hasn't been an irruptive year for them - so we were quite happy to see two, and possibly three, birds feeding in a cedar tree on the Point. Killdeer haven't been around much lately either but there were two in the State Park parking lot, first-of-year birds for some in our group. We also saw a perhaps overly ambitious Cooper's Hawk dive on a Bufflehead; the bufflehead may have been startled but it was quick, successfully evading the hawk as it disappeared under the water.
