Above Par Birding at Cox Hall Creek WMA - Sunday, September 2, 2018

The parking lot was very quiet - a nuthatch, some blue jays, a crow. But only a short way down the path, we started hearing the chatter of Baltimore Orioles - many Baltimore Orioles.  Mixed in with the Orioles was a nice variety of warblers including many American Redstarts and Black-and-white Warblers plus Canada Warbler, a Blue-winged Warbler and a Northern Waterthrush, intent on feeding as he bobbed along the pond edge.

Higbee Beach Birding - Friday, August 31st, 2018

"There's a Western Kingbird over here!" came the shout from the Dike where Morning Flight (monitoring) was going on. Our group, standing atop the wooden platform across from the Dike, was able to pick the bird out from among the many milling-about Eastern Kingbirds - a nice late-August surprise. We also had a smattering of warblers throughout the morning but our most cooperative birds were the Blue Grosbeaks that perched fairly close in front of the platform.

Twilight Walk at the Meadows - Wednesday, August 29th, 2018

Though the ponds were mostly bare of shorebirds, with just a small scattering of Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers, the beaches and dunes were bustling. Eastern Kingbirds, Tree and Barn Swallows filled the evening sky while Sanderlings defended their evening's catch from hungry gulls and terns. In addition to sorting out the Great from Snowy Egrets, Little Blue Herons in their white phase mingled in the feeding groups.
